Walking Liberty silver dollar prices
I can't find any good info on these as far as actual silver content.
And I can't seem to pin down pricing. For instance, if I have some 2005 one dollar "fine silver" 1 oz. Walking Libertys, do I take the "average" spot price of silver in 2005 to the ratio of one dollar and calculate the value at current sliver prices? Or are older silver dollars going for more simply based on collectibility, as opposed to silver content? Hope my question is not confusing. thanks! |
Re: Walking Liberty silver dollar prices
Are you talking about Walking Liberty half-dollars? There are no W-L silver dollars.

I think he means ASE's

Cosmo,
1996 is the only year that has a substantial premium for the uncirculated common issues. All contain one ounce of pure silver. They are more commonly known as American Silver Eagles. |

I am not a numismatic guy, so my question was to ask if they are considered "one dollar" U.S. currency at the time they are struck, the coin's silver content being only equal to the dollar value at the time. But your answer is that the coin is pure silver throughout?? I hate to ask: what is pure or fine as compared to .999? Bottom line: Is a WL comparable in value to a silver one-ounce round? Thanks for the help! Here is an auction for one of these so you know what I am referrring to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=002 |
Re: Walking Liberty silver dollar prices
999 is considered pure. They are not meant for circulation, they are bullion coins. Check this link. ASE's sell for more than one ounce rounds.

So the words "One Dollar" on an ASE is referring to the U.S. currency of $1.00 as the premium on the coin, but it is pure silver....so it sells for more than a silver round. right?? I know this is basic, but good stuff to know. thanks for the link! |
Re: Walking Liberty silver dollar prices
No, It just has to have a value on it in order to be legal tender. The Canadian version is 5 Dollars. Has nothing to due with the premium. They are just government issued 1 oz silver rounds.
